CEA postpones final leg of China Horse Racing Grand Prix

11/03/2015

The Chinese Equestrian Association (CEA) has today confirmed to the Hong Kong Jockey Club that the China Horse Racing Grand Prix Finale Raceday scheduled to take place on Saturday, 7 November at Jinma Racecourse in Wenjiang, outside Chengdu, has been postponed. This is due to a quarantine order issued by Mainland authorities which prevents the majority of potential starters in the Grand Prix Finale from travelling to Chengdu.

As previously announced, the Club has worked with the CEA as a technical advisor and sponsor for this concluding stage of the Grand Prix. In this capacity the Club is providing technical advice to the industry on the management of this equine influenza incident.

“All the working parties have been proactively preparing for this racing event and we fully support the professional decision of the CEA, in its capacity as the event organiser, to postpone the Finale,” said Mr. Richard Cheung, the Executive Director, Customer & Marketing.  “The Club will continue to share its technical expertise and operational experience, working closely with the CEA and the General Administration of Sport of China to facilitate the development of the sport of horse racing in Mainland China.”

“The health and welfare of  horses is always our priority and the current circumstances justify the actions taken by the CEA,” said Mr. Andrew Harding, Executive Director, Racing Authority.
