HKJC Community Festival enjoyed by over 33,000 visitors

04/05/2015

More than 33,000 people of all ages, including kids and teenagers, as well as young adults, parents and grandparents flocked to the Community Festival held at Sha Tin Racecourse over the Easter holidays in celebration of The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s 130th Anniversary.  Most visitors had a fun-filled day with many of them went to Penfold Park to enjoy close encounter with horses.  The three-day large-scale free community event ending today (5 April) featured a wide array of “edutainment” activities including two world record-breaking events.

The first record was a fingerprint painting of horses measuring over 230 metres in length and 150 square metres in total area produced by over 1,000 local primary and secondary school students under the leadership of Club Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges and renowned cross-media artist Simon Ma.  This huge painting has been verified as the largest-ever fingerprint painting in the world.  The second record-breaking event was a debut display of a 10,000-square-metre installation art composed of over 10,000 papier mâché eco-horse sculptures which has set a Guinness World Record as “the largest display of recycled paper animal sculptures”.  The sculptures were made under the “Ten Thousand Galloping Horses, United With One Heart” Installation Art and Education Project, organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and funded by the Club’s Charities Trust.
