Jockey Club MaD School encourages thousands of youngsters to think out of the box

01/10/2014

Nearly six-thousand Hong Kong’s young people are to take part in the “Jockey Club Make a Difference (MaD) School” programmes aimed to develop and enhance their creativity.  A three-day annual MaD Forum was opened today (10 Jan) by the Jockey Club’s Chief Executive Officer, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, along with HKSAR Chief Secretary for Administration Carrie Lam, Hong Kong Institute of Contemporary Culture Chief Executive Ada Wong and guests.

Noting that young people had the potential to make positive changes to society by giving them opportunities, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges said that the annual MaD Forum provides a platform for young people in the region with an all-round creative learning experience, and grooms them to be creative social innovators with an action-oriented social consciousness.

With the theme of exploring the “Fifth Direction” various interactive workshops and activities will be provided in the MaD Forum 2014.   They will include Jockey Club MaD School Roundtable, various ripple forums as well as interactive workshops and activities.  To emphasise this year’s theme, the Club will support a wide variety of MaD School programmes throughout the year, including “Social Innovation Studios” that guide students to become entrepreneurial through open classes and intensive workshops.  The “Fresh Learners” sessions are where skills and knowledge are shared in a peer-to-peer learning environment.

A highlighted programme named “Accumulator Scheme” encourages youngsters to start small but think big!  This Scheme is designed to guide and assist young people to put their ideas into action and become real “change-makers”.  For more information, please visit: http://www.mad.asia/

The Club has been supporting the MaD Forum since its inauguration in 2010 and provided a further donation to establish the Jockey Club MaD School in 2012.  In partnership with local and leading global social innovators, the School offers innovative programmes to the young generation through a systematic and sustainable learning platform that embraces meeting cross-disciplinary “change-makers” from around the world.

The School programmes and its online education resources are being supplemented with corresponding education kits to capture the essence of the Studio In-Situ and Social Innovation Studio series for classroom and self-directed learning, thus reaching even more teachers and students who are not able to join the sessions.
