Futsal final concludes Club-funded 4th Hong Kong Games

05/25/2013

The Hong Kong Jockey Club's Chief Executive Officer Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges today (25 May) joined Secretary for Labour and Welfare Matthew Cheung to witness the final of the 4th Hong Kong Games futsal competition and present medals to the winners. The Club is the Principal Contributor of the Hong Kong Games and title sponsor of the futsal competition for a second time.

A team of young reporters from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Youth Sports Reporter Programme reported on today’s futsal final with professional commentators Keyman Ma and Lau Shun-man, following a live webcast with the on-site commentator during the Athletics finals last Sunday (19 May).

The Club’s Charities Trust provided HK$5 million funding for the futsal and athletics competitions as part of its mission to encourage local residents to establish a positive and healthy lifestyle through active sports participation.  Over the past sixty years, the Jockey Club has contributed some HK$7.5 billion to promote sports development and to enhance the quality of life of Hong Kong people through recreational projects. Projects have included the construction of public swimming pools and sports grounds, the Hong Kong Stadium, Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, public riding schools and the 2008 Olympic equestrian venues.

Its most recent donation is HK$103 million to redevelop the old athletes’ hostel at the Hong Kong Sports Institute into a multi-purpose elite training and coaching centre, which will support development of Paralympic sports, junior elite athletes and coach education. In addition, the Club has funded The Jockey Club Youth Football Development Programme, a three-year-programme organised by the Hong Kong Football Association to provide comprehensive training for young players.
