Jockey Club named top CSR employer in new branding study

04/21/2013

The Hong Kong Jockey Club has been honoured with the "Employer Brand to Watch for Corporate Social Responsibility" award out of 75 largest employers in Hong Kong in the Randstad Award 2013.  The accolade is a testimony to the Club's long-standing commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and its multi-faceted contributions to bettering the quality of life of Hong Kong people.

Adding icing to the cake, the Club has also been named one of the Top 10 Most Attractive Employers, in recognition of its strong employer branding, good reputation and highly engaged workforce, able to deliver superior financial results and sustainable growth.

The Club, with a total workforce of over 26,000, is not only one of the largest employers in Hong Kong, but also provides more than 10% of all part-time employment opportunities in the city. Committed to the city’s long-term competitiveness, the Club established the Hong Kong Jockey Club College last year, the first local non-tertiary institution and non-professional association to be accredited to run programmes up to Associate Degree level in the Government’s Qualifications Framework. It marked an important milestone in the Club’s people management and training strategy.

In its role as Hong Kong’s major charitable benefactor, the Club last year donated a record HK$1.73 billion towards 155 charitable and community projects, reaching out to around three-quarters of the local population.  Through the establishment of its own CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team in 2005, the Club also extends its charitable support to different districts citywide by encouraging its employees to provide tailor-made community services to the needy.  Another manifestation of the Club's commitment to corporate social responsibility is its efforts to embed sustainability values throughout its culture and business operations, as well as its widespread support for environmental and conservation projects.

This is the first time Hong Kong has been surveyed for the Randstad Award, which was launched in Belgium in 1999 and has since been extended to 18 countries and regions.  It is organised by Randstad, the world’s second largest recruitment and HR services provider, to recognise each market's most attractive employers.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club is not only one of the world's leading horse racing organisations but also a world top 15 charitable organisation and Hong Kong’s largest community contributor, donating HK$1.7 billion in 2012. It is also a major taxpayer, Hong Kong's single largest by far, generating over HK$16 billion a year for public funds. The Club pioneers technology applications for sporting and betting entertainment, striving for the highest levels of customer service. As a membership club, it is recognised as one of Asia’s most prestigious, with more than 23,000 members. These multifaceted roles make it a well-respected and remarkable organisation, dedicated to its mission of enhancing the quality of life for all Hong Kong people.
