The Games, being held from 27 April to 2 June, are designed to promote the culture of “Sport for All” in Hong Kong’s 18 districts by encouraging people to actively participate in sports so as to strengthen their sense of belonging to the district in which they live and enhance community cohesion. Each District Council selects talented athletes within its own district to participate in the sports competitions, which comprise athletics, badminton, basketball, futsal, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball. A team of young reporters from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Youth Sports Reporter Programme will also cover the Games to apply the basic skills in sports reporting they have acquired.
