Jockey Club recruits McDull to promote green living

03/27/2013

The Environment Project initiated by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to raise awareness of climate change and other environmental issues is using popular local cartoon character McDull to promote green messages in an entertaining way for its latest initiative, Lower Carboni??Better Living project. Today (27 March), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined the Commissioner for Innovation and Technology Janet Wong and Chun Tian Hua Hua Foundation Director Samuel Choy to launch the Project.

Mr So said, “The Club has attached great importance to environmental protection. We are delighted to cooperate with the Chun Tian Hua Hua Foundation to promote happy low-carbon lifestyle via McDull.” He said he hoped that the participating students would actively engage in the activities organised by the Project, so as to spread the green message to others.

McDull will be the main character in a series of 20 five-minute animation clips as well as comic strips promoting the message of lower carbon, better living.  Such a presentation is expected to better get the green message across to students.  A teaching pack has also been produced for teachers, while a competition entitled “think more theme park” is designed to stimulate students’ creativity on how to make use of renewable energy and lead a more sustainable lifestyle.  Winners will have the opportunity to travel overseas to learn from other cities’ experiences.  Details of this infotainment project are available at http://low-carbon.mcdull.hk/.

The Jockey Club is strongly committed to environmental protection and conservation.  Its Trust-funded Environment Project launched in 2008 covers the Hong Chi Association’s Community Organic Farming Campaign, the Glass Bottle Recycling Campaign, and the CUHK Jockey Club Initiative Gaia as well as various international symposia and public forums.  To support environmental conservation, the Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course became the first in the world to deploy solar-powered golf carts through its entire fleet.  And to reduce carbon emissions, solar-hybrid catamarans have been brought in to carry passengers between Kau Sai Chau and Sai Kung pier.
