International a cappella festival expected to attract 20,000 people

More than 20,000 young people and the public are expected to take part in the HKFYG Jockey Club Hong Kong International a cappella Festival 2013 being held between 15 March and 27 April, which is being organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) with funding from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Club Chairman T Brian Stevenson, Steward Anthony W K Chow, Under Secretary for Home Affairs Florence Hui and HKFYG Executive Director Dr Rosanna Wong officiate the opening ceremony of the 2013 International a cappella Extravaganza on 16 March at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

This is the third year for the Trust to support the HKFYG Jockey Club a cappella Festival. The Extravaganza featured local and overseas performers including Out of the Blue, The Exchange, MayTree, Ivana Wong and the HKFYG Hong Kong Melody Makers. The overseas performers will conduct workshops and perform for students in local secondary schools.

In addition, 40 young talents graduating from the Jockey Club a cappella Education Programme, launched last year and involving more than 6,000 secondary school students, were invited to join the International a cappella Marathon and a cappella @ Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza programmes. Other events include an a cappella Master Series: The House Jacks and Hong Kong Melody Makers Concert will be held at the Hong Kong City Hall. The Trust has been supporting the HKFYG for almost half a century with donations exceeding HK$458 million, including the construction and redevelopment of the Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp; modernisation of more than ten Youth S.P.O.Ts; establishment of the Leading through Engineering, Art and Design (LEAD) Project; and the launch of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant - Youth Volunteer Network (VNET).
