Following the success of the HKJC Heritage x Arts x Design Walk (H.A.D. Walk) Project held in Central & Western District and Sham Shui Po, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated a further HK$8.36 million to HULU Culture to promote the local heritage of Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan this year as well as Tai Po and Fanling next year.
The public can learn more about the uniqueness of these districts by taking self-guided tours using an app for smartphones and tablet computers, as well as attending workshops, exhibitions, arts and crafts fairs, and a community concert featuring traditional music.
Today (24 October), the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So joined HULU Culture Executive Director Iman Fok and Project Director Simon Go to announce the details of the H.A.D. Walk Project in Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan.
Noting the overwhelming response to the activities held in Central & Western District and Sham Shui Po, which attracted over 250,000 participants, Mr So complimented HULU Culture for its achievements over the past years. “Both the Club and HULU Culture believe that conservation should include both tangible and intangible heritage. We hope the project can enable the public to have a better understanding of the Kwai Tsing and Tsuen Wan districts.”
Ms Fok thanked the Trust for its continuous support that had made extending the H.A.D. Walk Project to the New Territories possible, in turn promoting local heritage of each district to the public.
The 12-month Hong Kong Jockey Club H.A.D. Walk Project Tsuen Wan Kwai Tsing – Culture & Arts Fun Feast in Towns and Hakka Villages features the city life, old villages and countryside within the districts. Earlier this year, students from nine secondary schools and tertiary institutions joined workshops hosted by renowned artists, such as wood sculptor Wong Tin-yan and sand-painting artist Hoi Chiu, to create the art pieces, highlighting the characteristics of the districts. They also visited several heritage spots to inspire their creativity. Their artworks will be exhibited in various locations in Tsuen Wan from this December to next March.
In addition, the Hakka culture and Lo Wai Village will be highlights of the Project. The public can download the new version of iTour app with augmented reality function on smartphones and tablet computers for the self-guided tour. HULU Culture will also organise cultural tours and iTours for the public and low-income families; creative arts and crafts fairs as well as community concerts featuring traditional music forms of the districts.
