09/03/2012

The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (3 September) the appointment of Mr Gary Chow as Executive Director of Channels and Organisational Development with effect from 3 October 2012.

Mr Chow will lead the operations of the Club's three betting channels – Cashbet, Telebet and Interactive Services – which between them account for the largest share of the Club's 26,000 workforce.  Besides managing the operation of these channels, he will spearhead their transformation to meet increasingly sophisticated customer needs, so as to help the Club maintain its leadership in today's growingly competitive market.

This will include developing and implementing an integrated channel strategy to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction, upgrading the channels' infrastructure and supporting betting system development, as well as enhancing the capability of the interactive betting channels to tailor the digital and mobile betting experience to the needs of different customer segments.

Mr Chow brings to the Club a wealth of experience in managing large-scale channel and sales portfolios through some 26 years with PCCW-HKT and its predecessors, most recently as Managing Director for Engineering, Teleservices and Portfolio Management.  Prior to this he was Managing Director for the Commercial Group, overseeing various channels for the group's commercial sector.  He has headed multiple change management programmes in leading PCCW-HKT through strategic changes in the face of deregulation, and in competing for business-to-business contracts through sophisticated customer segmentation.  In recent years he has also taken up responsibilities for the group's facilities management and led major technical refreshment projects.

Mr Chow has a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Hong Kong.  He is married and has two children.
