Jockey Club funds CT Scan Centre for Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital

06/22/2012

Patients in Wong Tai Sin and neighbourhood can now receive computed tomography (CT) scan services with shorter waiting time in a newly-opened CT Scan Centre at Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital, equipped with a HK$11.7 million donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

The fitted-out Centre was officially opened today (22 June) by Jockey Club Steward Dr Donald K T Li, Secretary for Food and Health Dr York Chow, Hospital Authority Chief Executive Dr Leung Pak-yin, Our Lady of Maryknoll Hospital Chairperson of Board of Governors Dr Nancy Fok, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon West Cluster Dr Nancy Tung, Chairperson of Hospital Governing Committee Lester Huang and Hospital Chief Executive Dr Wong Tak-cheung.

Noting that the Club’s Charities Trust has contributed over HK$2.2 billion for the medical and health sector over the past decade, Dr Li said, “The Club is delighted to support the Hospital to improve its medical equipment and services for residents.  The renovated CT scan centre is expected to serve 6,000 patients annually which can shorten their waiting time, in turn providing better services in Wong Tai Sin District.”

Dr Chow told the audience that the CT scan service was one of the standard services provided by a district hospital and he also expressed his gratitude for the Trust’s donation to help the hospital purchase the CT scan system and its contribution to the medical sector in the past years.

The Club’s contribution covered the cost of fitting out the scanning centre as well as the purchase of a CT scan system, which has been in operation since early this year.  Apart from shortening the waiting time for patients on the list, this new service is being provided at a more affordable price.
