Jockey Club supports performing talents of Golden Guides

03/18/2012

Under a Jockey Club funded project, senior women are given the opportunity to develop their potential and contribute knowledge and skills to the community. Today (18 March) a dedicated group of them took to the stage to show off their performance skills.

The “Golden Guides Talent Show 2012” stems from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust donation of HK$3.84 million through its HKJC Community Project Grant to The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association to support the three-year project, Comprehensive Development of Golden Guides.

On hand to launch the show at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jockey Club Auditorium were the Club’s Executive Director, Charities, Douglas So, Yau Tsim Mong District Officer Vicki Kwok and The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association Chief Commissioner Josephine Pang.

Mr So noted that the Trust has supported over a hundred projects of The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association since 1947. “The Comprehensive Development of Golden Guides is a meaningful project because it promotes a positive life attitude, life-long learning spirit and a healthy social life, which are keys to staying young. We hope all the Golden Guides will live a full and better life.”

The purpose of the show was to demonstrate the fulfilling lives of the Golden Guides as well as to showcase their talents. Performing before an enthusiastic audience of nearly a thousand people, a total of 14 groups staged a variety show including sign singing, limericks, dancing and opera. Apart from letting the participants share their happiness of being a Golden Guide, the show helped them build team spirit and encouraged them to participate more in community services and promote positive ageing.

The Hong Kong Girl Guides Association established their Golden Guides division 22 years ago. With the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Project Grant, their “Comprehensive Development of Golden Guides” project aims to offer a wide range of activities, interest classes and leadership training programmes, to enrich their lives and to develop their potential to contribute the society. Apart from enhancing the positive image of elderly women, the project also provides a social networking platform for them to share experiences with the younger generations.
