Jockey Club brings creative life to Sham Shui Po heritage

07/31/2011

To enhance public appreciation and bring out the unique characteristics of Sham Shui Po District, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated nearly HK$4 million to a project that incorporates everything from virtual tours to exhibitions and workshops.  Organised by HULU Culture, the HKJC Heritage x Art x Design Walk (H.A.D. Walk) Project – Sham Shui Po Creativity & Arts for All was launched today (31 July) by Club Steward Stephen Ip along with Antiquities Advisory Board Chairman Bernard Chan and HULU Culture Chairman Dr Ng Chun Hung.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Stephen Ip noted that heritage conservation and promoting local arts and culture were among the major areas supported by the Club’s Charities Trust, so the Club was delighted to support the H.A.D. Walk.  “Sham Shui Po District has its own unique features, with many traditional cultures amidst the new redevelopment projects.  Through Hong Kong’s pioneering Cultural iTour, the public can have a deeper understanding of the District and absorb arts and culture into their daily lives.”

Mr Bernard Chan said the H.A.D. Walk provided a platform for the public to get to know more about Sham Shui Po, so as to have a sense of belonging and develop a strong bonding with the community.

Spread over 10 months, the H.A.D. Walk is being staged at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) and around the Sham Shui Po neighbourhood.  It features a series of exhibitions, design workshops, cultural tours, creative bazaars, community performances and educational programmes to give participants a better understanding of the District.  Apart from a community research study, design workshop and the Cultural iTour launched earlier this year, the JCCAC will host music, video and animation shows, Too Proud marts, a cultural workshop and talks until the end of September.  For details, please visit www.huluhk.org.
