07/04/2011

The Hong Kong Jockey Club today (4 July) announced the appointment of Mr Angus Lee as the Club's new Executive Director of Finance with effect from 1 August 2011.  He will succeed Mr Paulus Lee, who will retire after more than 18 years of service.

Angus Lee is currently Chief Financial Officer of Esquel Enterprises Ltd, a multi-national, Hong Kong-based cotton apparel and textile manufacturer with production facilities in China, Malaysia, Mauritius, Vietnam and Sri Lanka and a workforce of some 50,000.  He is responsible for a global team of more than 700 staff in the finance, treasury, IT, administration, legal, secretarial, import/export and logistics and warehousing departments.  He has previously worked at senior management levels with blue-chip companies such as Hutchison Whampoa, Fuji Xerox and Kraft Nabisco across the Asia-Pacific Region.

The Club's Chief Executive Officer Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges said he was delighted to have been able to secure Angus Lee's services to take up the critical role of overseeing the Club's financial portfolio at a time when the organisation was facing growing competitive pressures.  "He will bring to the Club a wide range of experience in management reporting, driving business performance, process re-engineering and improving operational effectiveness," he commented.  "This will contribute greatly to the Club's ongoing Organisational Transformation Programme."

Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges also paid warm tribute to the Club's outgoing Executive Director of Finance, Paulus Lee, noting that his prudent management of the Club's assets had played an important role in maintaining a sustainable business.  "Under his leadership, the Club has consistently achieved above average returns on its portfolio, contributing to healthy and significant financial growth," he observed.
