Racecourse Wedding Fair showcases unique venues and eco-friendly banquet menu

05/12/2011

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will hold its third Wedding Fair at Happy Valley Racecourse on Sunday 22 May, giving couples-to-be a chance to see some featured wedding venues at first hand and find out details of a shark-fin-free wedding banquet menu specially designed by the Club.  Apart from collecting valuable wedding information at the fair, visitors will be able to pose for photos with a pair of Shetland ponies, one of the unique features of the Club’s wedding service.

Professional snooker player Marco Fu and celebrity model Marie Zhuge will lead runway models in a fashionable wedding gown show.  Fu will shortly be getting married himself and holding his wedding reception at the racecourse, and visitors to the fair will be able to get a sneak preview of his wedding outfit.

A number of different wedding venues at the racecourse will be opened up to visitors during the fair, with staff on hand to explain the characteristics of each venue and the special banqueting services offered by the Club.  More than a dozen other exhibitors have been invited to provide a one-stop-shop for wedding-related services, including wedding gowns, jewellery and accessories, make-up services, photography, wedding cars and venue decoration.  The exhibitors will provide a series of enticing offers to the couples.  Talks on make-up, skin care, Chinese wedding gowns, feng shui at home and photography are also being arranged, as well as wedding car displays.

Conscious of the growing concern for environmental protection in the community, the Club has taken a lead in offering shark-fin-free banquet menus and using sustainable seafood throughout its racecourses and clubhouses.  This includes a specially designed wedding banquet menu in which the traditional shark's fin dish is replaced by a double-boiled soup of nutritious and precious ingredients, and all seafood items are listed as sustainable by the Seafood Guide of the World Wild Fund For Nature Hong Kong.  Chef Lam Wan-fai, Executive Chef (Racecourse-Chinese), will explain more about the eco-friendly wedding menu in one of the talks.  Light refreshments will be served during the fair, allowing the couples to preview the Club's top-quality catering services.

The Wedding Fair will run from 12:00 noon until 7:00 pm, and a pair of Shetland ponies will be at the racecourse to welcome guests from 4:15 pm to 5:30 pm.  Photo-taking with the ponies is free, but will be on a first come, first served basis.  Registration must be made in advance at the guest reception desk, starting at 12:00 noon.

There are 12 banquet venues at Happy Valley and Sha Tin Racecourses, providing a range of flexible sizes to suit either Chinese-style or Western-style wedding banquets of different scales.  For Chinese-style banquets, arrangements from 10 to 26 tables can be accommodated at each of the venues.  Other venues at the Club can also be arranged to meet customers’ needs.  For example, the Parade Ring at Sha Tin Racecourse was once the venue for a banquet of 80 tables at the customer’s request.

Interested couples may reserve tickets by phone or get walk-in tickets at a price of HK$50 per couple.  A free shuttle bus service between Happy Valley Racecourse and Admiralty MTR station will be available during the fair.
