Equestrian Experience added to Club-funded Summer Youth Programme

3 July 2010

The summer holidays are fast approaching.  To encourage young people to make good use of their leisure time by taking up new pursuits and discovering their full potential, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust has donated HK$16.8 million for the organization of this year's Summer Youth Programme.

Following the 2010 programme's official launch tomorrow (4 July), a series of outdoor and indoor activities covering arts and culture, recreation and sports, and community services will be offered across all 18 Districts of Hong Kong, catering for young people from ages 6 to 25.

The Club has been a staunch supporter of the Summer Youth Programme since its inception in 1969.  This year the Club's Charities Trust, in addition to continuing its support for activities organised in the 18 Districts, has donated HK$300,000 for the running of the new "Jockey Club Equestrian Experience for Youth", which will take place at Tuen Mun Public Riding School with the aim of nurturing interest in equestrian sport at community level.

The main theme of this year's Summer Youth Programme is "Be Confident, Be Positive, the Future is in Your Hands".  This theme is intended to urge young people to take the initiative and seize every opportunity open to them, fulfilling their potential and meeting life's challenges so as to build a bright future together.

The Summer Youth Programme is organised by a committee under the auspices of Home Affairs Department, with support from the 18 District Councils, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Hong Kong Police Force and Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, as well as various district-level voluntary associations and schools.  Further details of 2010 Programme are available from the website www.summeryouth.org.hk.

The opening ceremony of the 2010 Summer Youth Programme will be broadcast this Sunday (4 July) at 3:30 pm on TVB's Jade Channel.
