1,800 HKJC jobs on offer at Tin Shui Wai interview day

22 August 2009

The Hong Kong Jockey Club organised an interview day in Tin Shui Wai today (22 August), seeking to fill 1,800 part-time job positions - 1,500 of them at the new Tin Shui Wai Telebet Centre and the remaining 300 at the Club's Off-Course Betting Branches and racecourses. Successful candidates were notified on the spot.

Under a partnership with the Government agreed in 2007, the Club has converted part of the Tin Heng Estate car park building into the HKJC Tin Shui Wai Telebet Centre cum Volunteers and Training Centre with the aim of helping revitalise Tin Shui Wai.

The Centre commenced its first phase operation in May this year, for which the Club recruited 1,000 part-time Telebet Service Assistants. The additional 1,500 part-timers now being recruited will see the Centre come into full operation with the start of the new racing season on 13 September.

Since April, the Club has received a total of 29,000 applications for part-time service assistant positions in its Betting Division. A total of 2,800 candidates who had previously submitted applications for posts in Tin Shui Wai or New Territories West were offered interviews at today's event, of whom about 85 per cent live in Tin Shui Wai, Yuen Long or Tuen Mun. Further interviews will be conducted during the coming month with a view to completing the recruitment process by mid-September.

The pay rate for part-time betting service assistants starts at HK$41 per hour. The Club hopes the new positions it is offering will help relieve the current unemployment situation, especially in Tin Shui Wai.

Following the Government's approval of five extra racedays and 15 overseas simulcast days, the Club plans to recruit further manpower for its Telebet and Cashbet departments early next year.

The new HKJC Tin Shui Wai Volunteers and Training Centre provides free training and development programmes not only for its staff, but also for local residents. By helping the residents enhance their work skills and knowledge levels, the Club hopes to increase their employment potential so that they can better serve the community. Applications for the first quarterly series of training courses, commencing in October, will open on 1 September. Interested parties can call 2483 5160 for more information.
